In August 2023, the BRICS Trade and Investment Seminar was held in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The conference is hosted by KwaZulu-Natal Trade and Investment Company (TIKZN). Nomalungelo Gina, the Deputy Minister of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition of South Africa, Mxolisi Kaunda, the Mayor of Durban, and Neville Matjie, the Chief Executive Officer of TIKZN attended. Chairperson Yang Tingting and CEO Zhang Liqiang were invited to attend.

In her keynote speech, Nomalungelo Gina, the Deputy Minister of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition of South Africa, mentioned that the seminar, as an important part of the BRICS delegation activities, provided an important exchange platform for the delegation and South African entrepreneurs, and also showcased the investment opportunities in KwaZulu-Natal City.

Neville Matjie, CEO of TIKZN, introduced the investment opportunities in the province, saying in an interview that the seminar provided an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to meet delegations from BRICS countries, and also increased the possibility of foreign investment in tourism and infrastructure projects.

Chairperson Yang Tingting said in the interview that it was her second time to come to South Africa, and she was very happy to be able to participate in the seminar as a member of the delegation, and she came to South Africa in the hope of introducing more brands into the South African National Pavilion which operates on JD.com.
