In August 2023, the annual meeting of the BRICS Business Council was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. The closed-session was chaired by Busi Mabuza, Chairperson of the South African Chapter of BRICS Business Council, and Wankele Mene, Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, and members of the Council of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa were invited to attend.

During the meeting, the BRICS Business Council jointly reviewed and adopted the Annual Report of the BRICS Business Council 2023, summarized the achievements and highlights of the work of the BRICS Business Council this year on trade and investment, agricultural development and market connectivity, and put forward more than 30 professional recommendations to the BRICS governments. The Joint Statement on Promoting Trade and Investment among BRICS Countries was issued, calling for deepening trade and investment exchanges between BRICS countries and Africa, so as to contribute to the common prosperity of BRICS countries and Africa.
